2020 Distinguished Irish Women
The Saint Paul St Patrick’s Association has many dignitaries, Mr Pat, Miss Shamrock and the distinguished Irish Woman of the year. The 2020 Distinguished Irish Woman is actually four remarkable local women, Jane, Brigid, Kate and Rita-the McDonald sisters who are mainstays in local activist circles. They have been working on behalf of peace and social justice for the past 50 years. For decades, they helped keep the weekly Wednesday night protests on the Lake Street Bridge going. Visiting Professor
Tim Stone, Professor of Political Theory at Xavier University in Cincinnati Ohio, recently met with Jim Brooks and Mary McFarland from Irish Network MN at the Center for Irish Studies conference in Saint Paul. The Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas advances teaching and scholarship in Irish Studies between the university, Ireland and the Irish-American community.

Portrait Exhibit by Photographer Tom Dunn April 27 – 29 The third annual installment of the Irish of Minnesota exhibition, which focuses on the faces and stories of notable Minnesotans with Irish heritage, will be featured during Irish Arts Week and the Saint Paul Art Crawl, running April 27-29. Photographer Tom Dunn will host the growing exhibit in his Northern Warehouse studio in Lowertown and will be highlighted as part of Irish Arts Week on Saturday, April 28th from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. In collaboration with Irish Fair Minnesota and the 3rd Annual Saint Paul Irish Arts Week.

Looking Back on 2017
Irish Network Minnesota had a great 2017! Starting with a well-attended meet up for the St. Paul community’s highlight, Red Bull Crashed Ice Saint Paul, United States at the beginning of the year. Our annual charity effort, MARCH OUT Hunger led by Jamie Flynn, culminated in increased food and monetary donations made to the FINNEGANS Reverse Food Truck at the 2017 St. Paul, St. Patrick’s Day parade. We also introduced the first of many Irish Film Festivals when IN-MN partnered with the The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul for the 2017 International Film Festival to offer charming Irish film, “ School Life”.
